- Zachary Taylor 12th president of the United States. Taylor was a carrier officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general. His status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American war won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs.
- Battle of Buena Vista in February 23, 1847 also known as the Battle of Angostura saw the United States Army use artillery to repulse the much larger Mexican army in the Mexican-American War.
- The Death of Major of Ringgold at the Battle of Palo Alto in May 8 1846, which also was one of the first Major battle in the Mexican-American war. Samuel Ringgold was and artillery officer in the Untied States Army who was one of the first Major's to die in the war due to wounds.
